Sh532m for classrooms
APAC - The district has received sh532m to construct 30 classroom blocks and 60 latrines, the district inspector of schools, William Okabo-Opio, has said. Addressing councillors recently, Okabo-Opio said since 1999, 500 classrooms and 45 teachers’ houses had been constructed in the district, under the School Facilitation Grants. He said they face challenges of limited staff in the education department, insufficient transport facilities for inspectors, land disputes and students strikes.

Residents get mosquito nets

APAC - The district has donated 3,000 mosquito nets to residents of Nambieso, Apac and Alito sub-counties to fight malaria. Charles Epeet, the assistant health inspector, said most families were using smoke to drive away mosquitoes from their houses. He urged the beneficiaries to regularly dip the nets in chemicals that repels mosquitoes. The LC3 chairman of Nambieso sub-county, Martin Ebuk, said the district was infested with mosquitoes, especially near Lake Kwania.

Staff warned on service

KITGUM - Civil servants should observe political neutrality when executing their duties, the district chairman, John Komakech, has said. Addressing the district staff recently, Komakech said the role of the civil servants is to render selfless service to the public. He said: “Members of the public are our masters. We must serve them diligently, without discrimination.” Komakech said plans were underway to improve public servants’ terms and conditions of service to boost their morale.

Do not wait for prosperity fund

The Bonna Bagaggawale (prosperity for all) funds cannot bail all Ugandans out of poverty, Moses Byaruhanga, the presidential advisor on political affairs, has warned. Addressing vendors at Namawojjolo and Najjembe markets on Kampala-Jinja highway, recently, Byaruhanga urged Ugandans to start other revolving funds such that Bonna Bagaggawale funds act as a top-up. He urged the vendors not to sit and wait for funds, but to work hard to fight poverty.
