Residents have petitioned the works ministry over the dilapidated Muzizi Bridge. In a letter dated March 30, the LC5 chairperson, George Namyaka, requested the ministry to repair the bridge,saying it is about to collapse. He noted that the bridge was built in the early 1950’s when traffic was light but it has increased rapidly over the years. He added that flooding had also weakened the brdge.

The district chairman, Franco Ojur, said the district will not account for sh466m which the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) got from their account at Stanbic Bank, Lira branch. “There is no way we can account for what we didn’t utilise. The money was sent to supplement agricultural and water sanitation programmes but the URA took it,†Ojur said while meeting MPs at Lillian Tower in Lira last week. URA recently withdrew all the money on the district account to recover accumulated value added tax arrears of 1997 to 2003.
