UGANDA has nine boxers in today’s final of the Africa Zone 5 Championships and should win the overall title unless Egypt wins all its fights at the Olympic Village in Maadi Town.

Flyweight Ibrahim Keya, making his first attempt on the international boxing scene, and heavyweight Asuman Katende, were the odd men out.

Keya was stopped in the semi finals by Ramadan Rezkalla of Egypt in the third round.

The Bombers experienced another shock when El Jack Mursal of Sudan outpointed Katende in the heavyweight category. The Sudanese capitalised on his long reach to deny Katende any score.

Katende, 25, who won a silver in the East African military games in Nairobi, got several cautions from the day’s referee for holding that costed him the fight.
Katende’s major weakness was slapping that earned him several warnings.
