UGANDANS need to develop a research culture in all disciplines of learning to enhance their knowledge, a Makerere University lecturer has said.

“Research and writing skills are important because they broaden our knowledge,” Prof. Katunguka Rwakishaya of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences said.

He said the proposed give-away of Mabira Forest by the Government was not researched, which could explain the opposition by the public.

Rwakishaya was on Thursday awarding certificates to 59 students who completed postgraduate training in research methods and writing skills at the Centre for Basic Research in Kololo.

Rwakishaya encouraged Makerere University to partner with the research centre to minimise the lack of research knowledge among the scholars.

He told journalists to research before disseminating information to readers.

Seven of the students were also given certificates of distinction. Among the recipients were Peter Muliira, a senior lawyer, Catherine Namuddu, a business sub-editor with The New Vision and former Kampala Central Division chief, Charles Sserunjogi.
