FROM a small joint to a more upscale one, Gaetano Kaggwa’s family has been there and done it all. On Monday, they joined hands with patrons to mark the first anniversary of the bar that used to be called Mini-bar and now Zone 7 (named after the area in which it is located in Mbuya).

Because the family wanted a less pompous affair, there were no big time artistes or honourables to officiate. The magic lay in the music that was played. Gin-based Black Mamba and Zone 7 Sunshine cocktails by Gonza welcomed guests at the entrance.

Highlights included cutting a cake in the shape of seven with a candle. BLU*3’s Lilian Mbabazi sang the birthday tune a few minutes past midnight, but it was at this very time that Umeme chose to load shed. However, this did not dampen the mood of the guests who visited the counter frequently.

A mini catwalk was done and the selected models later danced with Gaetano to Mafikizolo’s Ndihamba Nawe. Oulanyah Columbus and Sam Ayo were the surprise act of the night doing what they called “singing” their latest songs.
