Residents of Kakuuto want authorities to intervene in the management of Kakuuto Health Centre to improve service delivery.
In a meeting recently, the residents also complained of theft of drugs at the health centre.

Councillor Agnes Namusiitwa said: “When you complain about something, they do something worse the following day.”

The Kakuuto sub-county speaker, Max Kayondo, said health workers lack customer care.

“They bark at patients, especially expectant mothers. If you complain, you will not be attended to.”

The in-charge of the health centre, Dr. Moses Sakor, said some members of staff disrespect him.
“I need the support of local leaders to run this health centre effectively. I have, on several occasions, asked my bosses at the district to transfer some of the staff who misbehave in vain.”

Other complaints are that healthworkers ask patients to buy drugs yet there are plenty in store, gate-keepers soliciting money from patients before calling doctors in case of an emergency and nurses, especially those on night duty, abandoning work without informing their bosses.

Residents compiled a report, which they submitted to their Member of Parliament Mathias Kasamba, LC5 chairman Vincent Semakula, the chief administrative officer, Philemon Mubiru, and the district director of health services, Dr. Robert Mayanja.

The report demanded an explanation from the committee managing the health centre about the disappearance of drugs worth sh6m and requested for the transfer of some staff.
Rakai district wants the health centre to be elevated to hospital status.
