PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni will on June 4 launch the Commonwealth business forum in London, ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in November in Kampala.

“Before the launch, we shall have an investors’ roundtable where the President will present a paper on the investment opportunities in Uganda to over 60 British businesspeople,” said Dr. Maggie Kigozi, the head of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA).

She disclosed that Patrick Bitature, the UIA chairman, and James Mulwana, who chairs the Uganda Private Sector Foundation, would assist the President in his presentation.

Kigozi said the President would also attend the Africa business forum on growth and sustainable development on June 5.

Several African presidents and Prof. Firmino Mucavele, the chief executive officer of the New Partnership for African Economic Development, are expected to attend.

The speakers include presidents John Kufuor (Ghana), Thabo Mbeki (South Africa), Armando Emilio Guebuza (Mozambique), Jakaya Kikwete (Tanzania) and Cameroon’s premier Ephraim Inoni, Kigozi disclosed.

“The objective of the forum is to judge progress on the agenda for Africa produced by the UK summit and to send a message from the private sector on action points for governments and businesses to create growth and eradicate poverty,” Kigozi said.

The topics to be discussed include governance and transparency, business, corruption, enhancing African trade, trade facilitation and customs improvement.

Others are improving the investment climate, enterprise development and job creation.
