THE Kamuli district chairman-elect has named his new executive with an appeal for hard work, unity and reconciliation. Stephen Mubiru retained Vincent Galisansana as the vice-chairperson, and also appointed him the gender secretary, a post formerly held by Sikolastika Magana, who was dropped.

Michael Kanaku, a one time vice-chairperson, becomes secretary for production. Rehema Watongola, a key campaigner for Mubiru in the just concluded by-election, was named secretary for education and health, replacing Norah Bamuteza.

The finance and planning position went to Samuel Bamwole, while Thomas Kategere retained his seat as council speaker. He is deputised by Rose Nangobi Kabenge.

Mubiru will manage the roads and other technical services. The cabinet was sworn-in last Friday by the chief administrative officer, Charles Okello, at the Youth Centre.

“We wasted one year in divisive politics. It is now time to focus on issues that will rebuild our district. “Political bickering should be abandoned as we concentrate on how to move forward for the good of our people,” Mubiru said at the swearing-in.

The resident district commissioner, Ahmed Doka, urged the secretaries to mobilise for the NRM party and woo supporters who had deserted the party during the stormy by-election.
