SOCCER - South Africa's globally recognised Springbok rugby emblem is in the firing line after the country's ruling party proposed Saturday the creation of a single sports symbol. Also at risk are the Protea emblem of the national cricket team and the insignia of the Bafana Bafana national football squad.

New boss

karate do - James Kyeyusa is the new Uganda Karate Do Federation president for the next two years. He replaced Steven Tamale, who has served only one term. The former federation’s vice president and Luzira SS Karate club member was elected to the seat unopposed during the federation’s AGM at Lugogo over the weekend.

CYCLING - Lango clan Ngurapuc has organised a bicycle race whose winner will walk away with a brand new Roadmaster bicycle. The 35 kilometre race is scheduled for July 14 and will be flagged off by Lango paramount chief (Wonyaci) Yosam Odur.
