CAR U-19 Africa Cup
July 22-27:

Group 1 (U-19): Zimbabwe, Morocco, Namibia, Tunisia
Group 2 (U-18): Uganda, Kenya, Ivory Coast

UGANDA will open her CAR Africa Cup U-18 campaign against Ivory Coast at Kampala Rugby Club this Sunday. With Madagascar pulling out, the hosts’ only other match in the week-long competition will be against arch-rivals Kenya.

Coach Fred Mudoola is optimistic his side will emerge top and qualify for the 2008 U-19 CAR Africa Cup.

“We topped the group last year and hope to do the same. All our opponents are determined to win but of course our neighbours Kenya are expected to be tough as usual,” Mudoola said at the launch of the tournament yesterday.

The Ugandan team will later have a friendly match against Namibia on July 28. The U-19 group will have the winner qualify for the IRB U-19 World Cup.

The last team in Group 1 will be relegated to Group 2, to pave way for the promoted team from the U-18.

Morocco is already in Kampala while the rest of the teams are expected to arrive today.
