Four more witnesses will back Salaamu Musumba in an election petition she filed against the Kamuli LC5 chief, Stephen Mubiru.

The affidavits filed before the Jinja High Court Deputy Registrar, Peter Okello, on August 3 raised the number of Musumba’s witnesses to 46, whereas Mubiru has 60.

Musumba, the Forum for Democratic Change vice-president, lost the May 10 elections to NRM’s Mubiru, who got 46,322 votes.

Musumba polled 44,424, whereas Paul Lubowa, an independent candidate, polled 7,171. She wants the High Court to nullify the election and order a re-run because the elections were marred by bribery.

She blames the Electoral Commission for failing to conduct them according to the law. “The Electoral Commission allowed the army, the Police and other security personnel to roam freely in the district, intimidating my supporters.”

Represented by Victoria Company Advocates and Erias Lukwago, Musumba also wants damages paid to her.
