SAVERINO Lukoya, the father of Alice Lakwena, the former leader of the Holy Spirit Movement rebels, has been stopped from holding prayers and purification rituals.

Lukoya and and Prof. Isaac Newton Ojok hoped to conduct the prayers from August 16 to 28 in areas where Lakwena battled against the Government.

Ojok was the former education minister in Milton Obote’s government.

However, the Gulu resident district commissioner, Col. (rtd) Walter Ochora, said the prayers were cancelled.

Lukoya and Prof. Ojok had been cleared by the permanent secretary in the ministry of internal affairs, Dr. Stephen Kagoda, to hold the prayers with Police coordination.

Lukoya said they wanted to conduct country-wide purification and prayers in places like Opit Railway Station where Lakwena launched the Holy Spirit Movement in 1984.

The other places to be visited included Acol-Pii, Mukura in Soroti district, Iyolwa in Tororo, Kaiti in Iganga and Maga-maga in Mayuge district, where she was defeated in 1987.

Lukoya said they also wanted to visit, Kilak Hills, Amuru Hot Springs, Barlonyo, Abia in Lira where the LRA massacred several people, Amuru, Guru-Guru, Bucoro, Atiak and Mucwini.

The prayers were organised by Lukoya’s church, The New Jerusalem Temple in Gulu, in conjunction with Amazing Grace International ministries in London.

“I have sheernut butter and soil from one of the hills in Pader district mixed with honey.

The mixture is for cleansing the people as we pray,” Lukoya said.

He added that they hoped to invite the President, ministers and MPs to the prayers.

Lakwena died early this year in Kenya where she fled after her defeat.
