The five children, who were born on December 15 at Jinja Hospital. will remain at the facility until they develop strong immune systems.

The hospital deputy medical superintendent, Dr. Vincent Mujabi, on Tuesday said the babies would be sent home when the tiniest of them attains a weight of 1.7 kilogrammes.

“The lives of these children are very fragile. They require constant supervision by the medical personnel,” said Mujabi, who appealed to the public to assist the children.

Dr. Earnest Kisango, one of the physicians taking care of the children, said are fed through tubes.

He said they were confined in a special wing accessed by only the medical personnel and their parents.

“The special wing has ideal conditions for nourishment and growth.

“It has also helped in controlling the health safety of the children as hundreds of people throng the hospital to see them,” he said.

Several people have been visiting the hospital to have a look at the children born to Dorothy Namunana, 27 and Sadique Mudubo, both residents of Namasiga Busedde sub-county in Jinja district.

She delivered her first child at 6:45am and it weighed 1.5 kg.
The second kid came an hour later, weighing 1.1kg, while the third one weighed 1.2kg.

The fourth baby weighed 1.5kg and the last baby weighed just 1kg.
