THE Electoral Commission (EC) yesterday warned hundreds of people who registered more than once for the general elections to report to the election officers and regularise their positions or face prosecution, reports Milton Olupot.

EC spokesman Jabweli Okello said, “They are in their hundreds.

We are sending the files to Police for action. The commission is working closely with the Police with a view to prosecuting the offenders.”

He appealed to voters who may have registered more than once to use the on-going display of the National Voters’ Register that is scheduled to end on January 11 to regularise their status.

“We are appealing to all to check the register and point out to the election officials that they registered more than once and they need their status regularised.

Those who voluntarily return the cards and cancel the 2nd and 3rd registrations will be pardoned by the EC,” he said.

Jabweli warned that culprits faced a fine not exceeding sh600,000 or imprisonment not exceeding one year.
