LOCAL government minister Tarsis Kabwegyere has advised voters not to vote for independent candidates.

He told voters that they will have wasted their votes if they vote for independent candidates.

Kabwegyere was speaking at the New Year’s Day service at Butare catholic church in Buhweju county, Bushenyi district.

“What will the independent candidate do for you if parliament or a district council is full of FDC or NRM supporters?” he asked.

“Even if you win as a president, how will you handle the parliament. What type of government are you going to make?”
He criticised the opposition parties, saying they did not appreciate what the NRM had done, citing universal primary education, roads and hospitals.

After the service, FDC officials held a rally, where Winnie Byanyima challenged Kabwegyere on the quality of education in most government primary schools.
