Bunyoro kingdom has supported lands minister and Buyanja County MP Baguma Isoke’s comments that the Baganda plundered Bunyoro’s resources.
In an interview at Kibaale district headquarters on Monday, the kingdom’s minister for culture and environment, Nester Magezi, said what Isoke (right) said was true.
“Omukama Kabalega and his people suffered very much during the time of the colonialists and many people were killed plus the loss of their domestic animals,†Magezi said.
“Bunyoro lost six counties that included Singo, Bulemezi, Buwekula, Buddu, Bugangaizi and Buyaga to Buganda and in the 1964 referendum, only Buyaga and Bugangaizi were returned,†Magezi explained.
“This is an unbelievable injustice because even the returned counties were not dully returned because land still remains in the control of absentee landlords, making the Banyoro squatters on their own land,†a tough- talking Magezi said.
