SINCE it opened its doors to the public early last year, La Fontaine, popularly known as X-Bar, has been plagued with ownership problems.

The Bukoto street bar first had problems when Darren Dooley, who owns Fat Boyz in Kisimenti, walked out of an agreement with Peter Otim, Andrew Lawoko and other investors. One day and without warning, he walked into X-Bar and grabbed all his stock and music equipment.

That move had the bar closed for a week. Next to walk is Lawoko. And just as the fortunes of the bar hit rock bottom, in walks Marjorie Gasparotti with a dime to spend.

However, the Marjorie/Otim alliance soon ran into trouble such that she now stands to loose sh23m and her land in Bunga because of unforseen events. Now all her property and that of Peter Otim is locked up in X-Bar.

And somewhere in the mix, the names of Cedric – not The Entertainer, but Babu and his sister Yvette, spring up. They too were interested in buying the bar, but got cold feet when they learnt of the many unresolved issues, those issues being who exactly owns the bar.
