Valentine’s at the Eagles Production show at Club Obbligato was something different. The men, most of them phone dealers and kikuubo businessmen, turned providers rather than lovers.

As a sign of love, one ‘smitten’ man in typical Congolese style, ordered crates of beer that matched his spouse’s height! A total six crates were presented before her. Not that she complained. The present sent her to cloud nine!

Many revellers took the day to the word. Quite a number of revellers turned up in the traditional red and black. On the day, the only black they never prayed for was the blackout they suffered when crowd favourite, Mesach Semakula, was on stage. The infuriated crowd, which had been chanting lyrics of Semakula’s songs, bayed for the organisers’ blood. Later, a standby generator came to their rescue.

However, Eagles production has a way of working up its fans, they follow it like a religion. They soon forgot the hiatus and enjoyed performances by Geoffrey Lutaaya, who unveiled his latest love ballad Easy Come Easy Go plus Haruna Mubiru, Ronald Mayinja and Catherine Kusasiira.

The decision by the band to do a live gig worked up the fans. Their new crop of talent, especially Steica Mayanja and Charles Ssekyewa, will surely keep the band afloat. To some in the middle-aged male crowd, Valentine’s Day is not complete without a tryst. You couldn’t help, but laugh at the men who openly accosted their dates for sexual favours.
