UGANDA is in the third position among African countries that levy high electricity charges per kilo watt hour (Kwh), a report has said.

The report was released recently by the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), a member of the World Bank Group.

MIGA carried out the survey in 10 African countries that included Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Lesotho, Mali, Senegal, Ghana, Madagascar, Mozambique and South Africa.

The country with the highest electricity charges is Senegal where it costs $13.10 (sh23,776) per Kwh for industrial use during peak periods.

Mali follows with $0.13 (sh2360 and Uganda is next with $0.10 (sh181.5).

Madagascar and South Africa are fourth with $0.08 (sh145).

The report carried out about, “Enterprise Benchmarking Programme in Uganda,” says one of the major impediments to investment promotion and competitiveness is the high electricity costs and unreliable power supply.
