FDC presidential candidate Kizza Besigye spent Thursday afternoon asking his supporters to turn up in big numbers and vote President Yoweri Museveni out next week.

He said after removing Museveni from power, he and his supporters would then put arrangements in place for the development of the country.

Besigye, who travelled from Kampala to Kabimbiri in Mukono district on Thursday afternoon, made several brief stopovers from Gayaza to Kabimbiri, urging supporters to vote on February 23.

He said he had limited time to campaign because a lot of his time was wasted in prison.

He said he had been all over the country and found everyone wanted Museveni out of office.
“Thank you for all your prayers. I have limited time for campaigning because I wasted all my time in prison,” Besigye, who spoke Luganda, said.

“I would like all of you to turn up in large numbers next week and throw Museveni out. After the election, we will come together with you and put in place arrangements for development, for all and not just for a few who are close to the President. So vote for me on February 23,” he said.

Besigye also asked his supporters to reach the polling stations at 6:00am so that the election officers open the ballot boxes in their presence.

He urged his supporters to ensure that the ballot boxes are empty and that they are locked again in their presence without anything put in them.

“Go to the polling stations at 6:00 in the morning and ensure that there are no papers in the ballot boxes.

After you have cast your votes, wait until 6:00pm when they announce that I have won,” Besigye said.

Mesmerised villagers, some excited and flashing the FDC V-sign, watched Besigye’s motorcade, made up of several vehicles and bodaboda cyclists, as it went through Gayaza town.

Besigye’s motorcade arrived at Kabimbiri trading centre at 6:45pm, after almost six hours of travel.
