THE energy ministry will soon announce the winner of the extension of the Kenya-Uganda Oil Pipeline contract, a top official said yesterday.

Michael Odong, the acting permanent secretary, said evaluation of the bidders had been done.
He said the winner would be unveiled before the press anytime.

“We have made progress on the evaluation, and we have very recently had communication from our counterparts in Kenya about it.

“It is a joint venture and we can not go ahead alone. But we can call you (press) as early as next week for the results” he said.

The 320-kilometre pipeline contract is at the final stage of financial evaluation.
Three best bidders, China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Corporation, MISA Incorporated/Shell Corporation and Tamoil, are tusling it out for the contract.
They are from the 23 original bidders.
