UGANDA Programme for Human and Holistic Development(UPHOLD) has printed story books detailing the success of women in a bid to retain girls in school.

UPHOLD regional director in Rwenzori, Alice Mundaka, said the project was funded by the United States Agency for International Development(USAID).
She said the books, for free distribution, contained successful stories of girls who had overcome challenges in attaining education.

Mundaka said the stories were got from the children interviewed from Bundibugyo district.

In a recent interview, Mundaka said the project was part of their behavioural change communication strategy programme.

The book followed a campaign on the girl child education held in Bundibugyo last year in which area-based NGOs participated. The NGOs included Action Aid,World Vision, the Catholic Relief Services and Save the Children - Uganda.

Mundaka said the 22-page book, titled Brave Girls, would be distributed to schools around the Rwenzori area including Kabarole, Kyenjojo, Kasese and Kamwenge.

“The book will also help to guide teachers on how they can give emotional support to girls faced with problems in their education”, She said.

Mundaka said the book would be followed by an essay competition about the girl child in schools around Bundibugyo and Kyenjojo districts.
