THE plan to resettle internally displaced people from camps in northern Uganda has hit a snag, with MPs querying its modalities and procedure.

Debating the matter on Tuesday, MPs asked Prime Minister Apolo Nsibambi to explain why Parliament was not involved in the formation of the plan.

Nsibambi said he had consulted the Lango and Acholi parliamentary groups, but they did not respond.

He said the resettlement was a voluntary matter, and the Government was not going to drive everybody out of the camps. “Those who feel they can leave, we provide them with iron sheets, food for six months and seeds,” he said.

He said opposition politicians like Agago MP Ogenga Latigo were saying that they were not consulted, to destroy the political good will.

“These are grave matters. Although we disagree politically, we should work together on this matter,” Nsibambi said.
