SIR — On April 9, the Sunday Vision published an article entitled “Uncertainty looms over kyeyo applicants”. Some issues were not correctly reported. The Ministry of Labour, on behalf of the government is fully supportive of our efforts. The article did not represent their views as the monitoring body. It was malicious and generated by unseen forces and individuals trying to discredit us as a company. We have proper systems in our office and operate professionally. It is not true that we planned to have applicants sign contracts on board a bus are. That is malicious. The Ministry of labour issues a document allowing a company to advertise in the local media. This document is not a forgery as your article suggested. The language used in the article was meant to discredit network Recruitment Services. For example, the writer wonders why Network Recruitment Services was the only company singled out among seven registered companies. The administrator in the Ministry of Labour who wrote a letter to the company authorising us to advertise was not contacted for any clarification. A briefing was held at Rock Gardens and a representative from Dubai and External employment Unit (EEU) was present.
Two hundred and fifty dollars was the fee asked by our client to cover work permit fees but when the people failed to raise the money in time we wanted to take them so we advised them to pay at least sh100,000 and later it would be deducted from their salaries. Sh50,000 is registration fee, which you will find in the statutory instruments of EEU. A Dubai visa has never been stamped in the passport. it is either a photocopy on a document and the original is on arrival in Dubai or just a number given to the airline. As a recruitment agency, we market our clients worldwide. UAE is one of the countries, so taking people to Iran is not a big deal. We have given our remaining applicants till the end of august to be placed. The bottom line is we are transparent in our operations and like any business we have experienced some logistical delays. If any of our applicants at anytime feels like pulling out of the programme, they are welcome to and we always refund their money. Therefore as law-abiding citizens, we are deeply concerned about the negligent reporting in your article and lack of care or professionalism.
This article has alarmed our clients and the general public, as it was to the effect that we were conning people of their money.
