FORMER SC Villa fans’ coordinator Ben Misagga has declared his readiness to contest for the club presidency at the club’s polls set for November.
Incumbent chairman Francisco Mugabe, who took charge at Villa Park in 1993 following the departure of late Patrick Kawooya, has already stated that he will stand for re-election.
Mugabe had last year, under pressure after the team’s sluggish form, offered to have the club elections next month.
But according to Villa secretary Edward Luyimbazi, the man commonly referred to as Capo, will not return after completing his term in November.
“SC Villa doesn’t need someone who is super rich. It only needs a person who has brilliant ideas and I think I can offer that,” Misagga said on Friday.
He claimed that he has ‘vital’ contacts that can prop the Jogoos among Africa’s elite clubs.
Misagga explained that Uganda was currently short of football talent — a shortage he would, as Villa supremo, address by bringing in foreign players from West Africa, particularly Nigeria.
He attributed his decision to contest for the club’s top job to constant pleas from the fans who reportedly want him to assume the mantle when Mugabe departs.
According to the Villa constitution, one can only contest for the presidency if he has a life membership card, which Misagga possesses.
Until recently, Misagga was SC Villa’s fans coordinator but he quit the post following allegations of financial mismanagement against him by the club executive.
Villa is currently experiencing its worst start to the Super League in several years. With the first round virtually over, the Jogoos are sixth on the 15-team table.
