A THREE-month exhibition to sensitise the public about gorillas and chimpanzees will be opened at the Uganda Museum on Wednesday, reports Charles Ariko.
The exhibition is one of the activities by the Great Apes Survival Project (GRASP) aimed at raising the profile of apes in Uganda through public awareness of their value, status and threats.
It will also show the different countries that make up the geographical range where the apes are found and how they should be protected. Entrance to the exhibition is free.
Moses Mapesa, the executive director of Uganda Wildlife Authority, said because of the threat to the habitat of the gorillas and chimpanzees, there was urgent need to find ways of protecting them.
He said Uganda’s tourism industry reaps from tourists who want to track and view mountain gorillas.
