THE government is committed to addressing problems and protecting the rights of children in war-torn northern Uganda, the gender ministry permanent secretary has said.
David Obong said the Government ratified the protocol to the convention on the rights of children on their involvement in armed conflict.
“Uganda has a robust legal framework to fight forced labour,” Obong told a committee of experts at the 95th session of the International Labour Conference held between May 31 and June 16 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Uganda’s permanent representative to the UN, Dr. Arsene Balihuta, led the national delegation of over 10 people.
Balihuta said Uganda was faced with challenges of a high population growth rate, HIV/AIDS and energy scarcity.
