PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has said the Government will use monies saved from World Bank (WB) debt waiver to step up investment in priority development programmes to eradicate poverty.

About $2.780b or half of Uganda’s debt was written off effective July over the next 40 years under the multilateral debt relief plan amounting to $37b, which is part of an initiative to ease the crushing financial burden faced by some of the world’s poorest nations.

Museveni who met the WB country manager Grace Yabrudy at State House Nakasero on Sunday, said the debt waiver would make it possible for the country to meet some of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals by 2015.
