NATIONAL Rally Champion Ponsiano Lwakataka has decided to end his 2006 season early.

“I am out until next year. I need to step aside, mobilise funds from my fans and sponsors and hopefully bounce back with a new car to reclaim my title,” Lwakataka who crashed his Subaru N4 in the Jomayi rally last weekend commented.

National championship runaway leader Ronald Ssebuguzi needs just 30 points in next month’s Moil rally to clinch the title.

Lwakataka has donated his old car to Rose Nassolo who will compete in the Moil and Independence rallies in September and October. “When I return with a more competitive car I will definitely give people a run for their money,” Lwakataka said.

Southern Motor Club will stage a fundraising sprint and gala for Lwakataka in December.
