ANXIETY reigned high as five Danish instructors introduced the handball game to the communities of Apac and Nakasongola districts last week.

Mammoth crowds thronged the fields as the Danish gymnastics and sports instructors took participants through various drills.

It is the first time the game reaches the areas. Since its introduction in the 1970s, handball has been mainly played around Kampala.
By Thursday, 52 participants in Apac and 42 from Nakasongola had completed a beginners’ instructors course.

Local NGO Recreation for Development and Peace (RDP) and the Danish counterparts are part of an inter-cultural cooperation programme.

The Danish instructors started a four-day course in Masindi on Monday. The beginners’ course will concurrently run with a holiday academy for students at Masindi stadium.

Districts associations to spread the game further are to be set up, according to RDP Uganda executive director Kenneth Nkumiro.
