IT was in a bid to beat deadline of participating in the 2006 general elections that it convened a delegates’ conference last year. Now the Democratic Party (DP) is set to hold an organised conference in August next year.
Addressing the weekly press conference at Kabusu yesterday, Prof. Richard Ebil Ottoo, the party secretary general, said they had already drawn a timetable for the process, including a budget.
“All is now set to hold a better delegates conference,” said Ottoo. “Last year, we went to Namboole (for the conference) in a hurry. We were not within our own calendar and therefore we had to beat a deadline.”
He said the party would soon hold village, parish, sub-country, county (constituency) and district elections prior to the national delegates’ conference that would see the party’s leadership renewed to tussle for power in 2011.
He said village elections would start in December.
