UN Under Secretary General for humanitarian affairs and emergency relief coordinator Jan Egeland is to undertake a two-day mission to Uganda starting tomorrow. A statement said he would meet government officials, donor representatives, UN and NGO officials. He will also travel to Southern Sudan and to Gulu to assess the situation of internally displaced persons.

KAMPALA: Iranians freed
Three Iranians arrested on Tuesday for allegedly filming the Egyptian Embassy in Kololo, a city suburb, have been freed following the intervention of officials at the Iranian Embassy, Special Branch police chief Juventine Odoket said yesterday.

KAMPALA: Kakande out
Democratic Party (DP) member Kenneth Paul Kakande, who lost the Nakawa Division MP seat to NRM’s Fred Ruhindi, has withdrawn an election petition in which he was seeking to unseat Ruhindi, state minister for constitutional affairs.

UPC plans
The Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) is to hold its delegates’ conference in December, the party national vice-chairman, Chris Opio, has said. He said during an interview on Wednesday that party leaders from all parts of the country would participate.

KAMPALA: Court halts
Court yesterday postponed the trial of three men accused of embezzling sh1b from the National Medical stores to allow one of them, Nelson Okao, to recover from illness. The other two are James Mukwaya and Patrick Kyakulaga.
