Just when we thought high-heeled shoes were the in-thing, suddenly, in come the clogs, taking the city by storm.
Clogs are made of breathable leather that is well-rounded at the toes. They come with a light chubby coke sole. The very sight of a clog communicates comfort, ease and relaxation. Never mind in past times, clogs were only worn by porters, manual workers and peasants. Today, clogs have risen to become a fashion and health pre-requisite for every social class.

Clogs are appropriate for people who have very wide feet and thus cannot fit into the sleek stilettos. And for once every week, fashion stars need to cast aside the stiletto that puts a strain on their calf and give you aching toes whenever you walk. This helps relieve bunions, hammer toes, metatarsal problem, and aching toe joints.

It is not so unusual to find a professional wearing clogs everyday just because her work requires her to walk about very often.

Doctor Isaac Lukanga of the Orthotech and Physical Rehabilitation International recommends that pregnant women and those who are plus-size wear clogs. “This reduces the risk of the women tripping and falling. The thick heel of the clog means that the wearer will be able to stand straighter, thus taking pressure off the lower back, hips and knees, reducing the chance of developing joint pains. The rounded toes also keep the feet well cradled.”

Clogs are fashionable and convenient too. They are the perfect fit for an on-the-go-lifestyle. And they come in all kinds of hues to match your outfit. “Clogs are fashioned for a more casual look. Wear them with denim pants, miniskirts, khaki shorts or linen trousers and accessorise them with chunky jewelry,” advises Vivian Nakandi of the Loita Designs shop. A-lines, high-slit long skirts and business suits, all go well with clogs. Remember, clogs are best on shorter women with plump legs.
