Dominion Church international (DCI) has donated clothes to Mbuya slum dwellers.
DCI Senior Pastor Robert Kazibwe said 15 Canadian churches sent clothes and shoes to demonstrate love and care for the community.
Kazibwe distributed the clothes to Mbuya II residents last week.
He said about 10,000 people, including soldiers from Mbuya barracks, received the clothes.
Sgt. Sam Bukenya said, “I have got a pair of bed sheets, trousers, shirts and a sweater. I’m going to share with my fellow soldiers at the barracks.”
A smiling Agnes Nantale, 72, said she was happy because she had got clothes for her grandchildren.
Kazibwe said they do this every year and since the children are more and the neediest, next year the church will bring a container for only children’s clothes.
To cater for other needs, Kazibwe said the church would build a health centre and a primary school for Mbuya II residents.
He said by 2008, the health centre and the school would be ready.
