THE Government’s decision to act against people who mismanaged the Global Fund monies is a good step towards fighting corruption, Dr. Fred Opio has said.

Opio, the Uganda Debt Network (UDN) executive director, said, “Corruption is an evil that should be condemned in the strongest terms.”

He was re-launching the anti-corruption mural that was on Friday relocated from Kayabwe on Kampala-Masaka highway to the Equator.

“UDN acknowledges the Government’s commitment to fighting corruption. To pick on those who mismanaged the Global Funds is a positive step towards that. We re-launch this mural as a reminder to those who inflict suffering on Ugandans through corruption to stop,” Opio said.

The re-location of the mural to the Equator wound up this year’s anti-corruption week.

UDN erected the mural in 2002 as a reminder of the dangers of corruption and poor governance.

Ethics and integrity minister Dr. Nsaba Buturo said in a speech read by Angela Bafakuzala, that the fight against corruption needed concerted effort of the masses, if the vice was to be contained.

“Corruption is not only in the Government, but also in private entities.

"As a government, we are concerned about it but we need to join efforts of the Cabinet, Judiciary and Parliament to address it effectively,” he said.
