A new president will take over boxing today after over four months of trying to normalise the sport by the Dr. Ntenge Ssengendo committee.

Former weightlifting federation president, who is also the vice president of the Uganda Olympic Committee Roger Ddungu, and former professional boxer Justin Juuko are contesting for the top seat. The new president will name his executive later.

Ddungu is backed by Samuel Lukanga while Juuko is backed by retired professional boxer Godfrey Nyakaana.

NCS’ Justin Ligyalingi is the returning officer at the assembly where 20 clubs have been screened for the elections.

The election will bring to an end the normalisation process, handled by a seven-man team appointed by National Council of Sports after the dissolution of Ssakka Kamoga executive for abuse of office.

The committee, on top of streamlining the electoral process, worked on a new constitution, which was approved by the delegates last week.
