Houses built in the Northern by-pass road reserve were on Friday demolished in Kireka, a Kampala city suburb.
Road Agency Formation Unit (RAFU) director Ken Foulds said this was to enable preparations for the construction to start.
He said the exercise was made simple when tenants adhered to the deadline and vacated the houses.
“It’s a procedure that these houses be demolished to give way for the by-pass that is to be constructed,†he said.
The tenants were given up to early January to vacate the premises after the Government compensated them.
He said houses adjacent to Mandela National Stadium would be demolished soon, adding that tractors were deployed to start the work.
He said RAFU was charged with improving the road network and developing new infrastructure projects.
