The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) plans to recruit over 5,000,000 members in the next three months, party spokesman Wafula Oguttu has said.

He said the recently elected party leaders would be responsible for the recruitment.

The party yesterday started its national campaign with the unveiling of the party platform, a temporary working document expected to direct the party’s operations in the next three months.

The 25-page document was unveiled at a press briefing at their newly-acquired offices at najjanankumbi near Kampala. It contains guiding principles and policies.

FDC formally released a list of its top party leadership that includes MPs Prof. Ogenga Latigo (Agago), Kassiano Wadri (Terego), who defected from the Democratic Party and Martin Wandera (Workers) from the Movement.

Josephine Wapakhabulo, daughter of former foreign affairs minister James Wapakhabulo is the deputy coordinator based in the UK.

The vice-chairperson for northern Uganda, Latigo, said FDC would build national consensus and a shred vision on the country’s future, formulate policies and programmes, identify funding sources, solicit political support from all Ugandans and seek their mandate to govern the country.

The party’s vision is to abolish graduated tax and increase the number of people in the Police from the current 15,000 to 25,000 in five years. They also plan to increase the prisons force by 1,000.

They said they would disband irregular security agencies, streamline the intelligence agencies and build and facilitate efficient, disciplined organs.
