PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has given Wakiso district sh104m to help fight poverty.

Speaking at celebrations to mark the water week at Gombe sub-county headquarters, district chairman Ian Kyeyune said the money would be used to purchase beans, maize and cassava stems for planting.

Water Aid Uganda sponsored the celebrations. It also commissioned bore holes, springs and wells in the sub-county. The voluntary action for development also facilitated the function.

“The district has received sh104m from President Yoweri Museveni to fight poverty and hunger. The food will be yours and the money you will get in case you sell the crops will still belong to you,” Kyeyune said.

He calmed fears that only a few people would receive the seeds, saying it was the President’s wish that the whole of Wakiso district develops.
