STATE minister for privatisation Prof. Peter Kasenene and three MPs on the finance committee have visited Malee Sampran Public Company in Thailand to assess the company’s ability to take over the Uganda Dairy Corporation (UDC).

The delegation, which visited the company earlier last month, included the chairperson of the finance committee, Bright Rwamirama, Beatrice Kiraso and Kalule Sengo and the Privatisation Unit (PU) technical team.

PU sponsored the tour.
Rwamirama said during the tour, the delegation met the chairman board of directors of the Thai company.

Rwamirama said the delegation discovered that a lot needed to be discussed by committee, but declined to give the details of their discovery.

“We want the minister to explain the issues we raised through our observations to the rest of the committee members,” Rwamirama said.

He said they also met the president but declined to give details of the meeting. “It was good that we went with the minister to find out whether UDC was being leased to a capable company. We are concerned about the fate of the corporation and the milk producers,” he said.

Rwamirama said the minister is to brief the committee today about the outcome of the tour and explain more about the take-over of UDC.
He said the committee would also meet the dairy farmers.
