THE public accounts committee (PAC) has queried the foreign affairs ministers’ and other ministry officials’ frequent travels abroad.

The committee chaired by Dr. Okullo Epak yesterday said the Permanent Secretary should not divert money from other projects to fund trips.

This was after the committee learnt that a balance of over sh335m from the construction of the ministry headquarters funded travels abroad.

The permanent Secretary, J. B Onen, said some of the unpredicted travels were very important and could not be cancelled.

Onen appeared before the committee to answer queries in the Auditor General’s report for the 2002/03 financial year.

The committee said though the diversion of sh335m from the capital development account expenditure, without MP’s authority did not affect the construction of the ministry headquarters, the PS should have informed the Premier.
