A UPDF lieutenant has purchased and fenced off a patch of land owned by City High School, on the Lugogo bypass in Kampala.

Lt. Kalogo on Sunday ordered men to fence off the land, which is bigger than a football pitch.

By about 4:30pm, the men were winding up the day’s work as Kalogo monitored them closely.

A Mobile Patrol Police vehicle had deployed policemen at the scene.
Asked what was going on, Kalogo, who had parked a Blue Pajero UAE 269C, said, “You can only get that information after swearing an affidavit.”

The school headmistress, Claire Nduhura, looked on helplessly as the land currently being used as a school garden was sealed off.
“Some of our staff called and told me that our land was being fenced. I am told they began in the morning,” Nduhura said.

She said the school had plans to erect more classrooms on the land.
Kampala City Council (KCC) reportedly sold the plot to Kalogo. It is no yet clear what he plans to do with the land.

Kampala assistant resident district commissioner Hashaka mpimbaza yesterday said the district land board and KCC had made some changes in the area.

“The upper side of the plot was being used as a cemetery. They re-planned the area and there are plans to compensate the school with some other land in the area,” he said on phone.

Jinja Road Police chief Wilson Kwanya said they deployed policemen at the scene on Mpimbaza’s request.

Nduhura yesterday said the developer had vandalised their wire mesh.
