THE NARC regime has heaved a sigh of relief following the replacement of the British High Commissioner, Edward Clay, with his Ugandan counterpart, Adam Wood effective July 1.
Clay, who has been a thorn in the flesh of Mwai Kibaki’s government over its ineptitude in combating graft, is retiring from diplomatic service, a statement from the High Commission in Nairobi said on Friday.
Wood, who came to Uganda in 2002, is returning to Kenya where he served between 1988 and 1993 as overseas development administration manager.
Clay openly said Kibaki’s administration was not serious about combating graft, which he claimed had reached alarming proportions.
Calling on Kibaki to fire corrupt ministers, Clay said, “They have eaten so much that they are now vomiting on our shoes,” which irked the leaders.
