GOMBE SSS stopped champions St Mary’s Kitende from attaining a repeat performance in the National Post Primary Schools Netball championship here on Sunday.

Gombe, who had for two years fallen prey to Kitende, finally captured the title from their archrivals on Sunday when the title drought came to an end. They scored eight goals in the second half en route to dethroning Kitende with a 13-07 victory.

A total of 56 teams took part in the four-day event that saw Gombe SS surge to a well deserved 16-10 triumph over Budo SS in the first semi-final. Kitende showed their prowess with a 20-04 trouncing of Old Kampala in the other semi-final.

Meanwhile, the East Africa Secondary School Games Netball qualifiers will be held separately in Kampala next month.

The top three teams from the qualifiers will join defending champions Kitende in representing Uganda during the games slated for September in Mbarara.
