THE army has said nine rebels, including one Capt. Okwir, who commanded the Sunday ambush on a civilian pick-up truck in Kitgum district, have been killed, reports Chris Ochowun.

The northeastern regional army spokesman, Capt. Paddy Ankunda, said their troops yesterday caught up the rebels that ambushed the civilian vehicle at Paluga-Lajeng in Lamwo county, Kitgum district, killing eight of them.

He said Okwir was killed during a battle along River Unyama in Gulu district yesterday.

“Capt. Okwir had only 15 fighters and when our troops killed him, the rest fled. We recovered one gun with one solar plate and 90 bullets,” he said.

He said their troops recovered two machine guns with several rounds of ammunition from the eight rebels killed in Kitgum district.
