KCC FC and Police stared at defeat but clawed their way to crucial victories in the City Tyres Super League first leg quarterfinals yesterday.

Both sides put up exciting second half performances to soften their second leg assignments.

Anthony Bongole came off the bench to single-handedly lift KCC from the burrows of defeat with two strikes worth the weight of gold after Sam Senoga and Bosco Nyeko’s own goal had given Simba a 2-0 first half lead.

Vincent Kayizzi’s third then made the difference in the classic tie that made up more for emotion than sparkle.

At Namboole stadium, Police were handed an early scare in the first and sixth minutes, when John Kalangwa and Ismail Kigozi struck to give Masaka an early lead.

But, Police recovered with fleet-footed striker Martin Muwanga elevating the cops to a 2-2 draw.

The strikes were a timely inspiration for Asuman Lubowa’s side as Robert Kimuli and Geoffrey Masaba netted one each for a 4-2 goal first leg advantage ahead of their second leg meetings on Thursday.

Today, Victor will be praying for the biggest upset of the league when they take on champions SC Villa in one of today's quarterfinals.
Emerging as the first debutante to win the top local league will be the Nsambya side’s motivation.

Express, led by Hassan Mubiru, encounter URA at Wankulukuku.
Meanwhile, FUFA has adjusted quarterfinal return leg fixtures involving URA, Express, SC Villa and Victor FC.

Victor play Villa on July 30th while URA host Express on August 1st.
Meddie Nsubuga returns to KCC from Argentina after an unsuccessful professional stint.
Ssozi returns to SC Villa.
