THE UGANDA Peoples congress (UPC) has blasted the Forum for democratic Change (FDC) over recent statements about the parties alliance ahead of the 2006 elections.

A member of the constitutional steering committee Chris Opio said FDC was confusing the public that UPC had formed an alliance with it to field one candidate for the presidency in 2006.

“At no one time has UPC thought about assisting any candidate anymore to run for presidency. What you have been hearing from FDC are just lies. They wanted to confuse the public and enjoy a free ride on our backs because they know we are more credible,” Opio said.

Opio and Haji Badru Wegulo were on a familiarisation tour in Busoga region last week.

Opio denied any possibility of UPC joining any political party.

He described FDC as a child of NRM in a new coat, implying that a child of a snake remains a snake.
