The entry into the East African Community (EAC) by Rwanda and Burundi has been delayed to allow further consultations.

The 10th meeting of the EAC Council of Ministers on Monday referred the applications of Rwanda and Burundi to a sectoral committee for scrutiny.

Tanzania’s minister for finance, Basil Miramba, made the announcement at the end of the meeting at Arusha International Conference Centre on Monday.

Miramba, who represented his foreign minister Zakaya Kikwete, the current chairperson of the council of ministers, said the issue of Rwanda and Burundi was not deliberated on.

“We advise that the issue be tackled by a specific sectoral committee so that it is brought to our attention in our next meeting,” he said.
