THE US ambassador, Jimmy Kolker, has warned Ugandans living in the US against giving financial support to the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) rebels.
Kolker was addressing the 17th UNAA convention at Marriott Hotel in Minneapolis.

“If there are any Ugandans in this country supporting the LRA financially or politically, they should stop,” he said. He said the LRA were on the US terrorist list and such support violated US law.

Kolker said peace and security, including the fight against terrorism, were essential to Africa’s future and to America’s interests on the continent.
He said Uganda had been a valuable partner to the US in securing peace in Sudan, DR Congo, Somalia and Burundi.

“In each case there are agreements US, Uganda and other nations are wor-king to uphold,” he said.

“We hope that despite Jjohn Garang’s death, the end of the war in southern Sudan will contribute to the end of the conflict in northern Uganda,” he said.
