Women Mps from northern Uganda have called for unity ahead of political pluralism.

Addressing a press conference at parliament yesterday, the chairperson of the northern Uganda women’s forum, Akwero Odong, (Kitgum Woman) said people in the north had suffered too long during the LRA war and should avoid divisive politics under multipartysm.

“The 19-year-long war has brought untold suffering. Over 1.4m people live in the north under unspeakable conditions. We don’t want another war because of political differences,” she said.

She said there was need to sensitise people in camps on conflict prevention and management, political tolerance and co-existence.

Adong said after realising that there were illegal arms that might fuel another war, the group is to hold civic education rallies in 10 major camps for the internally displaced in each of the districts affected by the war.
